Forest : We need it

Forests are one of the things that make the life possible on Earth. And also forest has helped in the development of the most intelligence species of Earth, yes we humans! It has provided us all the things that we need survive and to flourish and it is still providing us, but it is us who are killing it. Forests are group of large number of trees in it along with different species of animals, insects, birds etc. It provides us medicine, oxygen (one of main things, by which we can survive), food, shelter and much more. If forest will be clear, we will die.

According to Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations Since 1990, it is estimated that 420 million hectares of forest have been lost through conversion to other land uses, although the rate of deforestation has decreased over the past three decades.

The above data showed the net change in the forest area of the world in last few decades. Brazil, India, Indonesia are the countries with fastest deforestation, and also all these three countries come under the 12 mega biodiversity regions of the world. Brazil’s amazon is also known as the lungs of the Earth as it provides 20% of the oxygen to the world. Australia is also one the 12 mega diversities in the world. It has more numbers of kangaroos then the whole, population of Australia (including humans only). But sadly, in last 2020 it was caught in bushfire and many humans and animals were directly affected by it. The affected wildlife includes 143million mammals, 2.46 billion reptiles,180 million and 51 million frogs (as per as nbcnews.com).

The rate of deforestation is still higher in many countries as compare to their afforestation rate. The world has lost one third of its forest but still deforestation has an end. Environment and humans are closely linked to each other; one makes impacts on other. If we will make this link unbalance, then humans are threating their own existence. According to ourworldindata.org/  the earth’s surface cover just after the end of the last ice age.3 10,000 years ago 57% of the world’s habitable land was covered by forest. That’s 6 billion hectares.  Today, only 4 billion hectares are left. The world has lost one-third of its forest – an area twice the size of the United States.

We need to stop it. If we will not stop it today, our future generations will face it tomorrow. There’s a lot of things that we can do at our own individual levels. Such as planting much tress as possible, giving donations to those organizations or groups who are working on this and much more .
