Air is one of
the most essential abiotic component on Earth that makes life possible. Due to
the presence of this , we didn’t get infect by ultraviolet ray of
our sun . But what makes it important, it’s role in most of living things
survival. But what is changing it?
Atmosphere or
Air:
The
multi-layered gaseous envelope surrounding the planet Earth is called atmosphere.
Atmosphere filters sunlight before reaching the Earth, affects climate and is a
reservoir of serval elements which are essential for the life. It is divided
into five distinct layers: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere
(ionosphere) and exosphere.
On earth, we
humans beings along with all other biota are surrounded with air. Air is a
mixture of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide. Air also contains
water vapor and suspended dust particles. Oxygen is essential for most of the
organisms on the earth. oxygen is required for combustion.
Air contains
20% oxygen and it percentage is maintained by the process of photosynthesis, in
which chlorophyll present in plants take carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
with sunlight and water to produce c6h12o6 or simply glucose.
Importance of
atmosphere: -
1. Role of
atmosphere in climate control: Air is exhaustible natural resource. If there
will be no air, then there will be no plants , no animals , no rain or clouds,
no fires and no protection against harmful solar radiations. This is because
the atmosphere covers the Earth, like a blanket.
